In view of rising community COVID-19 infections, JKN Pulau Pinang moved swiftly to setup PKRC KMP. The PKRC team led by Dr. Elizabeth Anthony, TPKN (Perubatan) worked tirelessly over 5 days to get the first community PKRC in Penang island up and running on 21st November 2020.

This facility will be manned 24 hours by at least 4 Assistant Medical Officer and 2 Medical Officer. It will also have daily Infectious Disease Physician coverage.

PKRC KMP has a capacity of 90 beds and potentially expandable up to 190 beds. It is also equipped with a portable X-Ray machine with CR Reader and Laser Printer to allow for fast and accurate risk stratification of COVID-19 patients. A total of 98 Chest X-Rays has been done at this centre so far. At only 500 meters from Hospital Pulau Pinang, it allows for prompt transfer of patients requiring step up care.

Safety and Health is also a priority here with round the clock security coverage provided by PDRM, APM as well as RELA officers. A fire safety check was also conducted by Jabatan Bomba and Penyelamat prior to full operation of this centre. Staffs working here will be given weekly safety briefing and mental health screening on top of the daily health surveillance.
KKM will like to thank the Penang State Government, various government agencies, NGOs and private bodies who made this possible. Sincere gratitude also to Penang Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society that has provided 100 sets of mattress and pillow as well as loaning their disaster beds and 3 water dispenser to PKRC KMP.
